Our Weekly Message for February 7, 2002

Hello there!

Things are really buzzing in dance/drill team world as contest season is in a whirlwind. Costumes are arriving daily and routines are getting a last minute polish. I critiqued the Austin area dance/drill teams last night at the Austin Dance/Drill Team Spectacular. It is a wonderful opportunity for the dance/drill teams in the Austin School District to "show off" 3 of their routines for contest as well as get some important feedback to improve performances before contests begin. Admission at the door goes to underwrite scholarships within the school district. It is a great idea for your school district or area both for the teams, parents and raising scholarship money!

Here are some thoughts for the day:
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"I gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which I must stop and look fear in the face... I say to myself, I've lived through this and can take the next thing that comes along...We must do the things we think we cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt

"I never notice what has been done. I only see what remains to be done."
Madame Curie

"Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead." Louisa May Alcott
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

We are beside ourselves with excitement for this contest season as so many of our contests have grown so much since last season. Most are up anywhere from 20% to 100%. The Gussie Nell Davis Dance Classic benefiting Kilgore Rangerette Scholarships has doubled in size since last season! Click here to view current schedules as well as results from past contests.

There is more to being a winner than mere success. Below is a passage on "Being a Winner," by Nancy Smith. I feel it is very fitting for this contest season. I hope you have a wonderful week and as always, please keep in touch!

Best wishes for a successful year,

Be a Winner

Winners take chances.
Like everyone else, they fear failing,
but they refuse to let fear control them.
Winners don't give up.
When life gets rough, they hang in until
the going gets better.
Winners are flexible.
They realize there is more than one way
and are willing to try others.
Winners know they are not perfect.
They respect their weaknesses
while making the most of their strengths.
Winners fall, but they don't stay down.
They stubbornly refuse to let a fall
keep them from climbing.

Winners don't blame fate for their failures
nor luck for their successes.
Winners accept responsibility for their lives.
Winners are positive thinkers
who see good in all things.
From the ordinary, they make the extraordinary.
Winners believe in the path they have chosen
even when it's hard,
even when others can't see
where they are going.
Winners are patient.
They know a goal is only as worthy
as the effort that's required to achieve it.
Winners make this world to a better place be.

---Nancy Smith
