On the night prior to the first day of camp or the morning of the first day of camp, the staff will sit down and choose teams they would like to have for staff buddies. At officer camp you may have multiple teams and at line camp you will probably have 1-2 teams. Below we have listed what is expected of you as a staff buddy and what should not be expected of you as a staff buddy. We have also given you a "schedule" that would be useful to you in planning "activities" with your team. Remember that many of the girls in an officer group or on a team will be looking up to you as their role model. Everything you say and do will have an impact on each of the young ladies you will encounter. Most of all, have fun with the team and let them know when you will be available to assist them.

Staff Buddy Responsibilities:
-
Assist with learning of Camp Dance
-Write letters of encouragement using ADTS note cards
-Assist with their critique for a few minutes at end of day
-Ask the director daily if everything is okay (rooms, classes, ribbons, food, etc,)
-If your buddy team is winning an "of the day" award, assist in passing out ribbons to them
-Remember the smaller/beginner teams!

Staff Buddy No-No’s:
-Never re-teach a routine to a team -you can review them on a certain dance, but your duty is not to re-teach
-Just because a team is your buddy team does not mean that you show a heavy favoritism towards them.
-Don't spend excess hours with your buddy team when you know you have staff duties to take care of. Set a specific amount of time aside for them and let them know when that is (ex. "I’ll be available today prior to dinner for about 15 minutes if you would like to get together and work on something").
-Try not to get involved in team problems or disagreements -let the director and/or officer handle those situations.

Day 1

  • Opening Meeting -you will be introduced to your buddy team

  • Camp Dance -you may or may not have the opportunity to greet your team personally prior to Camp Dance. If you have the chance, please do so.

  • During the day -write your buddy team a good luck note for the rest of the week and for Home Routine night.

  • After Home Routine -if they are still around and time permits, go and congratulate them on a job well done.

  • At the end of each day, have a fun chant or team bulding activity for them.

Day 2

  • Greet them in the morning during breakfast or prior to the teaching session

  • Again at lunch or prior to the afternoon teaching session, make sure that everything is going okay.

  • This is guest choreography night -make sure your buddy team is pumped up and ready to have fun!

Day 3

  • This is the last chance for girls wishing to audition for AA/HM/Jr AA to get a ribbon. That morning ask the director if there is anybody she feels deserves to get a ribbon that has not received one. If so, try to get word to the instructor or ribbon watcher whose class they are in. (Say to the director, "I’ll have them watch her a little closer today.")

  • In the afternoon at line camp, teams will have final evaluation routine, please be there and help support your buddy team.

  • The office will send items that can be counted and placed in sacks for each buddy team. Make sure to do this in advance of final evaluation so that they can be passed out at the end of the awards.
  • Be sure to tell the director you are available for choreography or critiquing of contest routines and encourage them to attend one of our one day winter clinics and/or contests!
