Dance company
Selected on AA Audition night; Must...
- Have exceptional dance technique on camp dance and other dances as well
- Have a nice natural projection
- Be selected as an All American
- Be observed all week in class
- These girls stand out because of their dance skills
- Staff should write down names, or description, of possible Dance Co. Candidate, and submit on audition night. These girls should be chosen from jazz, novelty, pom, lyrical, and all dance classes, but will be marked on their AA audition forms.

Kick company
- Eliminate on first round for the following:
- Excessive contracting (upper body out of control)
- Rounded shoulders
- Lifting up hip on kick
- Feet flexed or turned out
- Bent knee on kicking leg
- Lacks full fan rotation
- Not kicking at "12:00"
- Not achieving "head" high kicks
- Lacks stamina (other techniques begin to falter)
- Some of these, in slight degrees, may pass through the first few rounds. No
exceptions for kicking on the end or final rounds.
- Announcer should explain to the audience what the judges are looking for and that some groups may cut a few and some may cut all.
- Make sure that the judging staff is constantly comparing the groups to the ones that are previously chosen. This is like solo contest- finalists and winners should be the best!
- Miss High Kick should display exceptional kick qualities in every area.

Outstanding PERFORMER
Should have the following qualities:
- Good memory
- Above average performer
- Maturity, good leader
- Positive attitude
- Stands out
- Leadership and role model
All American
- Staff should focus on the group at hand & not what team they are on or what team is yet to come.
- Remember to choose & compare to other recipients for consistency. Staff should not be judgmental on style. Basic dance technique, control, and placement should be a factor.
- Consideration should be given to all teams, yet you may not find recipients on every team. *Because they are officers does mean they must be chosen, there may be better dancers on their team that should be chosen instead.
- Do not ask candidates if they have been AA/JM/JR AA
before
- Look for the following on audition night only:
1) Outstanding dance technique
2) A nice, natural projection
3) Memory
Honorable mentions
- The same qualities for an All American except to a lesser degree
Junior All Americans
- The same basic qualities as an All American and Honorable Mention, yet skills appropriate to their age level.
Private Camps
At private camps, audition day should include auditions for: All American, Honorable Mention, Outstanding Performer, Dance Co., Kick Co. (No Trips), Spirit Of
ADTS (great attitude), Pizazz Award (energy and projection), Gussie Nell Davis Dancer of the Week (outstanding work ethic). This will give the instructor options to present awards to weaker teams, that will not send them on trips. |

Ribbons |
Being assigned to ribbon
watcher should be taken seriously. We have constant comments about too few
ribbons being passed out in classes or too many ribbons being passed out
let's try to be consistent!
The following criteria should be used in dance, parade, & marching
classes while watching for ribbons. Please read them carefully & apply
all of these "rules" to your distribution of ribbons.
-
Be ready and prepared
to watch for ribbons the minute that class starts, making sure to stand or be in a position to see the entire group. Change positions every so often to get a different persective.
-
Have a notepad &
pen to map out formations and to mark girls for ribbons. It is
best to choose girls from the beginning formation because they are in
that formation the most.
-
It is your
responsibility to get ribbons from the "ribbon manager".
Make sure you get plenty of ribbons for all classes in a day. If you
think you don't have enough when it comes time to pass them out, try
to get some from another staff member.
-
Please take proper care
of your ribbons.
1. Do not put rubber bands around them!
2. Do not fold them up and put them in your bag!
3. Do not throw them in the bottom of your bag!
4. Do keep them in your notebook or in a Ziploc baggy!
*Ribbons may seem like an inexpensive item, but we buy over
5,000 a year and recycle them after each camp. Most ribbons come back
from all camps unusable!!!
-
Try to remain pleasant
and look eager to watch for ribbons. We have had complaints about
people reading, sleeping, yawning, and/or not paying attention.
Ribbon

E) When the music is on at the end, they should be at performance
level (including projection, and/or energy)

a red ribbon
-
Teal ribbons

explanation for reasoning behind giving the ribbon. Make sure to go up to dancer and announcer her name and the reason the ribbon was given.
Look for:
A) Hard work
B) Projection/energy
C) Class behavior/discipline
D) Memory
E) Leadership
-
Pink ribbon
*Look for same criteria as
red/white ribbon, yet must first receive a red ribbon, then
display exceptional qualities in areas listed under red.
*Most likely there will be fewer of these, but dancers can earn more than one at camp.
-
Outstanding member
of the day
*This yellow ribbon will be given to
the director and the director will be pass it out to a deserving team
member for that day
