TIME LIMITS

It is important to be on time to report for each scheduled performance. If for any reason that you will be late, please report to the announcer in the specified area. If another area is running behind, your performance will be rescheduled. If for any reason that a team is abusing the timeliness of the schedule, American Dance/Drill Team® reserves the right to penalize that team or performance.

IMPORTANT TEAM TIME LIMIT INFORMATION: Backdrops will need to be rehearsed for set up and breakdown procedures by your parents or students. In the past, we have been very lax in not penalizing overage on set up time. SHOW PRODUCTION will allow 10 minutes for setup, performance and break down. For all other categories, you will have 4 minutes for set up, performance and break down. If there is any exception to this, it must be approved through the American office.

Penalties will be assessed in the amount of one point per minute per judge for any time overage. The head judge will assess this penalty after the judges have issued their scores on the routine.

Keep in mind that many contest locations have limited prop storage on site. All props will need to be able to pass easily through a 7 foot door without the center bar. Please contact our office if you have any questions.

TEAM Time Limits: 3  minute time limit with a minimum of 90 seconds, plus one minute for entrance and exit, making a total of 4 minutes.

OFFICER Time Limits: 2 1/2  minute time limit with a minimum of 90 seconds. Any routine over 2:45 will be penalized.

Ensemble/DUET Time Limits: 2 1/2  minute time limit  for ensembles that are divided into duets (2 performers), small (3 to 5 performers), medium (6-12 performers), or  large (13-20 performers) ensembles. Any routine over 2:45 will be penalized.

Solos: Minimum 90 seconds/Maximum 2 minutes. If the solo routine exceeds 2 minutes and 15 seconds. soloists will be ineligible for solo finals.

MUSIC

All music MUST be professionally recorded on a single CD for each piece of music. We encourage you to bring a backup cd We will also be able to accommodate music on an iPod, but the director or manager must be present to play the iPod.

If you use a tape, it should be recorded at the beginning of SIDE ONE at performance tempo. Please do not have multiple pieces of music on the same tape or CD.

If you have entrance and/or exit music on your CD/tape, please make a note on CD/tape and have a representative at the sound table.

At all contests we will have a Music Check Station set up with headphones that you may utilize throughout the day for tempo checks for both CD and cassette. If using a tape, please remember to re-cue your tape after music check.

A representative from your team MUST be at the sound area to give music cues if there are special instructions, entrance/exit music, etc. You may also use an iPod as long as you have someone that can operate it to start and stop the music.

The name of your school and category must be printed clearly on the CD, not just the case. Soloists name must appear on the solo tape/CD.

Please bring all CD/music tapes to the sound area at the beginning of the category about to start or when announced.

Please pick up your music following your performance.

Any profane words or implications of violence will not be tolerated in your music. Teams will be penalized for inappropriate music.

Please make sure you have the highest quality recording possible for your music. Months are spent in preparation for your contest routines, so don't let it fall short because of a poor musical recording. Keep in mind the time and money you spend on costumes and other aspects of your performance and put the same forethought and effort into your music.

PENALTIES

Unlimited penalties, at the judges discretion, will be issued this year for teams using inappropriate moves, music or costuming. Over the past several years routines (solos, ensembles, officers and team) have become more provocative in nature. We received numerous e-mails and letters regarding these issues. Parents, directors and students alike are all concerned. Please be cautious in all of your routine choices to avoid penalties from judges as they see fit.

VIDEOS

Spectators are welcome to bring their own video equipment, but will not be allowed to plug in to electrical outlets nor use tripods due to safety and liability reasons. If you are using cords or tripods, you will be asked to remove them. Some contests will have Cathy Wheat Productions recording the team/officer events. DVD's are mailed to you within 10 days of the event.
